August 2014 Budgeting & Debt Update

(*I am aware that this is personal. That people get squeamish laying their money woes out for the world. For me, part of this process of having a healthier relationship with money, is being honest about where I am. To see my other posts on our money journey click here or explore our Being Thrifty tab)

I swore that if I ever kept a blog I would be honest on it and not just share the rosy, excellent things that happen in life. If you're looking for that kind of post today, you're not going to find that here. Go to our wedding page instead. Happiness lives there. But here, and today, with our budget, I am here to report this abysmal progress update. GULP.

Here was our Mid-June update:

June Debt

And here's where we are today:

august debt

Womp. Womp. We only paid off $258 in debt from Mid-June until the first of August. Even worse-- we carried a balance on our Home Depot card for the first time ever. As a rule, we DO NOT use credit cards anymore, and haven't since we started FPU. But we did use our HD card to get wedding stuff, and paid off half of it. Coming up with yet another $50 to pay off that card was just not in the cards... so to speak. The wedding killed us financially this last month and half. To be honest, I am surprised that we even got $258 paid off.

It's a new day and a MARRIED new day at that. Our wedding was beautiful. It was the best day I could have hoped for and has set LB and I up for a lifetime of love together. But it was just one day, and now, the real work begins.

As we combine our finances, strange feelings of team work, and togetherness are creeping in and I dig it. We are going to combine everything by the end of August and so it should be interesting to see where we are mid-way through September (6 weeks has been the typical schedule for doing our debt updates). Send us your Dave Ramsey/budgeting vibes!
