Paint Color Parade

This may come as a shocker considering that we just painted the entire upstairs of our house, but I am currently searching for paint for the following projects.

The Trim:

It's going black y'all. It's happening. No more blue-ish green and it's going to match the front door. Get on board.

The Hallway to the Basement:

It's the last vestiges of the poo brown and I feel like it mocks me.

The Master Bedroom:

It's not that I hate this master bedroom color, it's just that the inspiration picture below is the direction we are going and the current paint color (Gray Horse by BMoore) isn't getting us there. Not to mention that the way it pulls green in this room was not the original idea.

The NUTZOID part was that Ace Hardware had a buy one get one free on Valspar paint this weekend, so this shiz REALLY is going down! (I'm yelling timber!!!!) Plus this will give me a chance to review Valspar paint as compared to Benjamin Moore, my typical go to brand.

Master Bedroom Paint Picking Process (say that three times fast)

As I decide what colors to choose, I first start with an inspiration picture like the one from Houzz above. Sometimes, I will straight jack the paint color out of that space and try it on my walls. I also head to Ashley and I's paint color parade board on pinterest to see if anything would fit the current project. The first one on there that popped out at me was Valspar's Polar Star and it's got major potential for the master.  I also saw that Ashley had pinned this bad boy with Drury Blue by BMoore. Still not convinced that these were the ones that would get me close to dream bedroom land (see what I did there), I went back to the inspiration picture and decided that the master bedroom re-paint would be one of those instances where I jack the paint color from the designer who crafted this room.

The paint in the bedroom inspiration picture is Benjamin Moore HC 170 Wickam Gray, so I headed to Ace (that also sells BMoore) and normally would have grabbed a sample of that and some friends to hang out with Whickham. To decide which ones will work ahead of time I go to pinterest and type in Whickham Gray. Typically, you will find pins like this and this that give colors in the same family as Wickham Gray. After pinterest stalking, I want to try out Gray Owl,Moonshine, and Valspar's Polar Star for the master bedroom (I'd like to try something dark/bolder in there like Antique Pewter but I doubt LB will go for it). I took a look at all five of these colors (Gray Owl, Moonshine, Polar Star, Antique Pewter, and Wickham Gray), and instead of buying samples I just pulled trigger and bought a gallon of Valspar paint but tinted it to Wickham Gray. After I get a sample of Wickham up, I can go back to Ace to have them re-tint it if I don't love it. So, we're moving ahead!

Hallway to the Basement

I headed to Houzz and typed in stairwells to basement and found these two that had some promise, but wasn't really blown away by anything.

The issue that our hallway heading down there is SUPER dark and it transitions at the bottom the gray that is on all the walls in the basement. Regardless, Hazy Skies, Chelsea Gray, and Barren Plain by BenMoore from the pictures above seemed to be in contention.  I still wanted to find something in the yellow family that wouldn't make LB run screaming away from me, fearing I had lost my damn mind. Cue, Mushroom Cap by Benjamin Moore.

I feel pretty good about these color options considering they are ALL OVER the map and they would all look good after I convince LB to rip out the carpet on the stairs and stain them dark with bright-as-the-sun-white baseboards. The hallway is on pause while we paint the trim and the master bedroom, but the ideas are continuing to percolate.

What are YOU painting lately? Do you have other sources you check out when deciding on colors?
